Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for cooling season. Before the summer weather is officially here and you’re running your air conditioner constantly to stay comfortable, remember to call your AC service technician to come out and complete your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to an air conditioning tune-up, there are a couple other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

No, we aren’t implying that you should take your air conditioning unit apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the space around your unit to clear away twigs and foliage that have made their way to your air conditioner during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the A/C and trim back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Coastal Service Experts will change your home’s basic air filters when they perform your seasonal tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every one to two months for optimal performance. An unchanged filter accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your A/C system, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular air conditioning service. Remember, a clogged filter could actually damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Hanging blackout drapes or window shades can help keep your home cooler and avoid the sun from heating up your home. This may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t spend daylight savings checking the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors, now it the perfect time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling your air conditioning repair technician because your system isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider installing an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature away from home and save money on your heating and cooling bills.

An annual AC tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills. Call Coastal Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioner is set to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and learn about our spring specials on air conditioning tune-ups.
