Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last few weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Nothing is worse than turning in at night just to realize your furnace won’t turn on. If this happens to you, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call Coastal Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters every 30 days. If you fail to do so, they can get clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but make sure the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating equipment will still not start up, give Coastal Service Experts a call at 912-208-2399 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
