Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last few weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cool nights. Nothing is worse than going to bed at night and realizing your furnace won’t kick on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before calling Coastal Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters every 30 days. If you fail to do so, they can get clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but confirm the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your heating equipment will still not start up, give Coastal Service Experts a call at 912-208-2399 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
